International Greyhound Racing Holocaust

It’s not enough that racing greyhounds in what is considered a civilized nation (the United States) continue to die and suffer senseless injuries.

In Guam, when the racing industry came to an end, dogs were set free in the jungle to fend for themselves and face other atrocities. Fortunately, a combined effort of U.S. greyhound advocacy groups and Guam Animals in Need have helped to save some of these greyhounds and find them adoptable homes both locally in Guam and by flying them to the United States.

Now in Jamaica, they want to launch greyhound racing. Every article mentions how it will  help the local economy. That didn’t work in Guam and other parts of the U.S., and it’s not going to work on a subtropical island like Jamaica. Nowhere do the articles mention greyhound welfare. Jamaica is another greyhound holocaust waiting to happen.

South Africa is also considering greyhound racing. Another bad idea.

What can you do?

GREY2K USA has submitted official testimony, but your letters are needed at this time as well. Please write to the authorities and media outlets to let them know that greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane, and that economically, it has become a losing proposition in the United States.

You can rely on points from  state-by-state racing pages or you can click here to review or download a racing fact sheet (PDF).

How much blood needs to be shed in the name of greyhound racing?

Greyhound Racing 2009 – Change and Hope

Yesterday was a historic day for America. I watched TV for hours and screamed and cried and applauded with the greatness of each passing hour. Just seeing the throngs of people in Washington and other cities all gathered today for a peaceful common cause did my soul good.  This past year has also been historic for greyhound racing as voters in Mass. banned greyhound racing by the year 2010 and hopefully they throw in the towel sooner and live greyhound racing closed its doors in Kansas as well.  No matter how much spin the dog racing industry spews forth to say dogs are well cared for and adopted out, the voting public is hip to the truth. In reality, dogs still die – from injuries, from oops litters, from a myriad of gruesome ways.

I do feel there is a change coming and am hopeful that people will

–continue to speak out against greyhound racing;

–continue to write letters to all sorts of media and post about the horrors on blogs and social media sites;

–continue to protest in public;

and

–continue their fight to end greyhound racing in the United States.  Let’s make 2009 — freedom from greyhound racing oppression.  Never stop fighting for what is right.

Greyhound Racing in the UK Sucks

Actually greyhound racing everywhere sucks — the United States, Guam, Ireland, Spain, Vietnam, Australia, and of course, the United Kingdom.

Here’s an article about the many deaths of greyhounds in the UK.

And here are several videos that back up the greyhound cruelty in the UK.

Help the Guam Greyhounds-Greyhound Racing Track Closed

Guam Greyhound Park has committed to matching donations up to $50 per dog. There are 104 dogs remaining at the track.  GAIN – the local humane society, also has greyhounds at their shelter.  Around 80 to 100 greyhounds were dispersed  before a responsible program was instituted. Hopefully, at least some of those dogs will be reeled in.

Please send donations to:

Thank you

Guam Greyhound Racing Holocaust

Worst case scenario: Track closes and dogs are given away like free kittens on a street corner. There is no spay and neuter, no accountability, no responsibility, no nothing.

Dogs are already dying

The U.S. greyhound advocacy groups (PDF) are coming together to help circumvent this Guam greyhound racing holocaust.

Guam animal rescue is trying but needs more assistance.

The greyhound racing associations like Global Greyhounds and American Greyhound Council and National Greyhound Association have to join forces.  Otherwise they turn a blind eye to this Guam greyhound racing holocaust.

Earlier in the year there was some stirring that Jamaica wanted to have greyhound races to help the economy. The article said they wanted 20 races a day. DOG FORBID!

Jamaica would be Guam times five.

The racing associations have to step up to the plate and put restrictions and what ifs on these half-baked scenarios.

They have to put their money where their winnings are and in this time of need they have to work side by side with the greyhound advocacy groups to help Guam greyhounds.

Greyhounds Are Dying to Entertain You

This is one of the saddest videos I have seen. It hurts my heart to watch it. Thank you to Greyhound Muses for having the courage to show it.

What the hell is wrong with our society or any society that allows this greyhound abuse to continue?

Greyhound Racing Ends in Guam. Greyhound Welfare in Guam?

So does bingo! Times must be really bad. You can put the bingo cards in a box and give it to grandma but WHAT ABOUT THE DOGS?

There is no mention in this article if Guam has live racing or simulcast. Although it looks like live racing.

And if there is live racing, there is no mention of what is going to happen to all the greyhounds in Guam or how many dogs there are?

There is no mention of greyhound welfare in Guam.

International Greyhound Racing is a Crime

If you think greyhounds are treated poorly in the Tucson and beyond — they are treated far worse in other countries.

Britain, Australia, Ireland, and Spain are the worst offenders.

Read on.
