Greyhound racing: It was a rare rainy day & night in Tucson
April 9 – It rained all damn day and into the evening. The ground was soft and muddy, too muddy to let my dog out in the yard to run or to go for a walk. Thousands of people were without power. It snowed in the town of Oracle and on Mt. Lemmon.
However, at the dog track in South Tucson, only 12 to 15 minutes away from where it was too muddy for my dog, the show most go on, the money must be made, and the dogs raced like they always do.
Track notes:
- not in it
- trailed
- never in it
- no threat
- late fade
- steady fade
- no factor
- never close
- no contender
- off fast, faded
Here are some of last week’s highlights (being sarcastic); more specific low points
–Mississippi Mule, (has raced 163 races) (appeared on the 2008 injury list), in his last four (short) races: bumped in turn, blocked in turn, never in it, faded thruout
Last raced - Thurs 4/07.
–AK’s Fruitcake, (has raced 313 races) last three races: no contender, late fade, faded thruout
Last race Thurs 4/07. On schedule to race Tues, 4/12. Fruitcake is 5+ years old. Why the Eyler Kennel insists on racing this dog into the ground is beyond me. It’s times like this I wish we had an Arizona department of racing with strict greyhound welfare standards.
AK’s Toureg (has raced 157 races) ( appeared on the 2008 injury list), last six (short) races: no factor, late fade, dropped back late, back early, settled for fourth, early try.
Last race Tues 4/05. On schedule to race Mon, 4/11.
Again, this hound needs to race to a couch!
RLM’s Damage (has raced 193 races) (appeared on the 2008 injury list), last four races: early contender, bumped at break, factor until late, not in it.
Raced 4/09
