Tucson: End dog racing abuse peaceful protest – Jan. 15, 2011

Protesting dog racing cruelty

Yesterday – January 15, 2011 – animal rights activists and concerned citizens from Prescott, Phoenix, Green Valley, and Tucson took a stand against greyhound racing abuse.

Eighteen adults and one 10 year old boy stood proudly carrying signs in front of a  bar & grill that offers off-track-betting on Speedway Blvd. Off-track-betting or OTB props up the cruel and dying sport of dog racing.

Cars drove by slowly to read all the signs. Hundreds of cars honked or did thumbs up for approval.

Across the street from our protest is a wildly popular restaurant which always has a line which means protesters have a built in audience.  A soccer team of 10 year old girls was part of our cheering section. I see young activists in the making – one of the protesters took them some fliers which they proudly held up before they were called into the restaurant.

Thank you to all the dedicated people who came out to give ANTI greyhound racing a voice.

As long as there is dog racing in Tucson, there will be protests. Educate yourself about what’s happening in Arizona regarding dog racing advocacy. Find out how you can get involved.

  1. Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of greyhound racing! Thank you for having the courage to protest against this horrible sport.

  2. This protest has got to help – it will make people aware of what is happening to these greyt dogs! Thank you for taking the time to do this for the dogs.
