greyhound racing: 5 dogs injured in 2 AZ tracks – April 24, 2008

Two years ago today – April 24, 2008, Air Page had a career ending injury. According to Greyhound Data, this dog raced 238 times from May 8, 2004 to April 24, 2008. #*&%! That is a damn crime!

In all these races, she only had 35 wins and  placed second 29 times. Air Page was not a big winner but for whatever unknown reason, nobody would let her stop racing.

According to the Greyhound Data page, comments allude to her struggling in her races since at least January.

The Greyhound Data is so detailed yet nobody or nothing says what happened to this dog.

This is a big problem. Greyhound Data is minutely detailed while the dog is racing but once they stop — POOF! — whereabouts of dogs become unable to track. I don’t know how the pro racing contingent can say that their adoption rate is 90 percent unless they have a secret ledger somewhere that they’re not showing to the skeptical public. How about some transparency?

Did anyone adopt Air Page or did she race until her death?

The night that ended Air Page’s racing career, Phat Az Carmen was the winner. Carmen shows up on the 2008 injury report twice, once  in May as lame and once in July with a pulled muscle. Then what happens?

Almost 2 years later, Carmen gets adopted. What happened to poor Carmen in the interim?

Also on April 24, 2008, two more dogs were injured at Phoenix Greyhound Park and two more dogs at Tucson Greyhound Park. One night, two tracks, five dogs and five injuries. Do the math: It’s five too many.

Hear the sound of greyhound race tracks closing

The sound is sweet and melodic not like the sounds of dogs crashing into railings and breaking their legs.

Oh, how sweet it is…progress of dog tracks closing and not to reopen in THREE  northeast states — New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Read the update and rejoice!

$19 million tax break to Florida dog tracks, greyhound racing

Wow! Florida must be flush with money (unlike Arizona). Florida must be flush with so much money for offering a $19 million dollar tax break to the dog tracks.

Gotta keep those dogs running and the dog tracks afloat because the dog racing industry can’t seem to be doing it themselves. Has Florida heard that greyhound racing is a dying industry?

If you have a legitimate business in Florida where dogs are not injured, are not carted away in kill trucks, and where dogs don’t die and you’re not getting a big tax break — you better contact your legislators to find out what the criteria is in order to get a big tax break.

Boycott Florida!
