R.I.P. AZ Racing Greyhounds – Jan. 2008

On the 2008 greyhound racing injury report, I noticed two dogs that died in January and never got to know the comfort of a forever home. These greyhounds died racing to their death.

Let’s remember them now:

At the Phoenix Greyhound Park on Jan. 9, 2008, racing greyhound RUMBLE suffered a right radius fracture and ulna. The treatment was euthanasia or PTD (put to death).

As with all fractures, fractures of the radius and ulna can also be classified as “simple” if each bone breaks into two pieces or “comminuted” if there are multiple pieces. Please see this website for additional reference.

On Jan. 15, 2008 at Tucson Greyhound Park, TNJ KAYKAY was euthanized. The report gives no information as to what kind of injury this dog suffered or where on the body the injury was. Information not provided.

TNJ KAYKAY ran 43 races in almost a year before she died. She missed her 3rd birthday by a month. Did somebody get rich of this dog?

If you can remember why TNJ KAYKAY died and want to talk about it, please contact savetucsongreyhounds@gmail.com

You too can look at your very own injury report which is available by contacting (ADOR) Arizona Department of Racing and completing a FOIA request.

  1. What? That’s what they did? About Rumble, I’ve read about greyhound adoption groups that take injured dogs and make sure they have the treatment they need. And KayKay, they can do that? Euthanize a dog without reporting what type of injury it had? RIP is right, very sad.
