Tucson Greyhound Racing-Run Dogs Run – part 2

See part 1 for information about the injury list. Some dogs that were injured at PHOENIX GREYHOUND PARK are now racing at TUCSON GREYHOUND PARK.

Why do dogs have to continue running into the ground for a buck or point or payout?

Here are dogs that were injured in PHOENIX GREYHOUND PARK in 2008 (from the 2008 Arizona Injury List-http://www.grey2kusa.org/pdf/G2K-2008AZInjuryTable.pdf)  that are now racing at TUCSON GREYHOUND PARK:

why is there next to no information provided? You can see this for yourself. Where’s the accountability?

PHOENIX GREYHOUND PARK    percentage of entries with treatment rendered to dog “not provided” = 88.5%

TUCSON GREYHOUND PARK    percentage of entries with treatment rendered to dog “not provided” = 55%

————————–

PHOENIX GREYHOUND PARK -  28 entries with date and dog’s name only; 1 entry with date only, not even dog’s name

TUCSON GREYHOUND PARK - 1 entry with date only, not even dog’s name

Let’s do the math:

469   dogs total

- 15  entries with incomplete dog’s name or no name (unknown greyhounds!)

454  dogs identified

- 28   euthanized at track

426   dogs identified alive after race

Approximately 200 dogs sustained career-ending injuries on the dates shown on the injury report, which includes the dogs that were put to death (euthanasia).

Questions to ponder:

–Is there any veterinarian oversight on dogs being injured and then put back into action on the track?

–If so, what?  If not, why not?

–Are records kept? Where’s the regulation?

–How many times can a greyhound be injured before he or she is retired or euthanized?

–What criteria? If so, who monitors the criteria?

–Is anybody paying attention to what happens to these dogs?

One Response to “Tucson Greyhound Racing-Run Dogs Run – part 2”

  1. Wait a minute. There’s no record of where the other dogs on that injury report are now? No accountability means no record of where any Arizona dogs wind up?

What about all the other greyhounds that were at Phoenix now that the track there is closed? There’s been newspaper articles about the tracks closing in Wisconsin and Mass that say how many greyhounds are now available and that every greyhound will be accounted for.

Come to think of it, I haven’t seen anything about how many greyhounds moved out of Phoenix.

Keep up the good work Blogger. It sounds like the Arizona dogs need help from more people like you.
