Greyhound Racing Injuries in Texas

Texas has two dog tracks — one is open year around, the other for six months.

In 2008, 350 greyhound racing injuries were reported.

The majority of injuries reported were fractures followed by muscle tears. A dog had a toe torn off, and 20 dogs died while racing or were euthanized post-race.

Notably, 28 dogs suffered up to three injuries each. These inclued Oh Susanna, who fractured her leg twice, once in August and once in November, and then was euthanized.

Oh Susanna did not race to her death once but twice in excruciating pain and cruelty. Why does a dog have to race again after breaking her leg? Where’s the Department of Racing oversight? Where the NGA oversight?

Read the report. Write a letter to the newspaper. Post this report on Facebook and Twitter.

While Texas is bad, Arizona is far worse with  reported injuries and death.
