Florida Racing Greyhounds in Grave Danger
Thousands of Florida greyhounds are in grave danger.
Right now, Florida lawmakers are on the verge of passing a slot machine bill that would ensure that the cruelty of dog racing continues for decades.
That is why the GREY2K USA Board of Directors went to Tallahassee today. At a Capitol press conference, they are releasing never-before-seen video footage of two greyhounds that suffered and died just a few months ago at Florida dog tracks.
On November 17, 2008, a three-year old brindle greyhound named Birthday Toy died after colliding with another dog, falling under the live rail and being electrocuted during a race at Sanford Orlando Kennel Club.
Only a few days later, a two-year old fawn greyhound named Jawa Spock was euthanized after breaking both of his back legs during a race at Palm Beach Kennel Club.
Does this sound like fun?
This state sanctioned and regulated dog cruelty must end.
That is the message that Florida lawmakers are hearing today but since most have received donations from Florida lobbyists and the gambling industry, what will happen?
These two injuries are a sad example of the cruelty greyhounds are subjected to every day at Florida racetracks. At these gambling facilities, thousands of dogs endure lives of terrible confinement, kept in small cages barely large enough to stand up or turn around for long hours each day.
Thankfully, greyhound racing is a dying industry and the end is in sight for the Sunshine State’s 13 dog tracks. If the slot machine bill passes, countless greyhounds will suffer, because the new law includes a mandate that requires dog racing continue.
Get it? Dog racing is dying (pun intended) on its own popularity and needs the slot machines to keep it going. It’s just not right.
Contact your Florida State Representative and State Senator today and ask them to vote NO on the dog track slot machine bill.
Then please donate to support this critical effort. Florida’s greyhounds can’t speak for themselves and are counting on you to speak for them.
The tracks will use misinformation to pass the slot machine thing…When they tried that here in Tucson, they were telling people outside polling that it was ‘for the dogs care’ that they needed the slot machines to pay for better care of the dogs.
I hope people will see thru this and vote no on the slots. All it will do is prolong the suffering of these beautiful creatures.

It is absolutely insane that only the thugs and corrupt politicians push these bills. Casinos are all over the World and DOGS ARE NOT NEEDED! Why all these idiots screaming for Greyhound Puppy Mills to make millionaires out of so few and meanwhile stashing hundreds of millions of dollars , directly into politicians pockets and conniving THIEVES!
Fraud, racketeering, etc, ( refer to story….TRI-STATE ; JACK SWINT, WEST VIRGINIA) is rampant, and it is rampant everywhere where there is a Greyhound Racetrack!
Governors and Lawmakers, we are not waiting any longer for you to figure it out.
BAN GREYHOUND RACING like CIVILIZED COUNTRIES EVERYWHERE!
We look cruel and stupid because of your inaction.
