Greyhound Racing: Wisconsin Greyhounds Need Homes

Here’s another reason why greyhound racing needs to cut their losses and go away.

Greyhound racing causes a glut of dogs. There are always more dogs that need homes than homes. It’s supply and demand. The supply of race dogs far exceeds the demand for homes.

In Kenosha, Wisconsin, there are more than 100 dogs that need adoptive homes.

Seasonal closings always account for a glut of dogs. Many adoption groups try to work together to place these dogs but the pressure is constant. Too many dogs have too many broken legs…further contributing to the ongoing cruelty of the greyhound racing industry.

Imagine your Golden Retriever and then consider the alternative.

Should Greyhound Racing be Banned?

yes, YES, YeS, yes, yes, hell yes, yessiree, Yes, YES, YES, YES, Si, Yep, Yes, yes, SI, yes, yes, yes…………

Because of the passage of proposition 3 in Massachusetts to ban greyhound racing by 2010…greyhounds, greyhound racing, and greyhound adoption have had a ton of publicity.

Hundreds of pet sites and news sites are now talking about greyhounds — awareness is always good.

If there was no greyhound racing, there would not be several hundreds of dogs that needed homes when a race track closed. It should be the responsibility of every race track to care for these dogs until every one of them finds an adoptive home.  Then greyhounds will be like other dogs — Labradors, poodles, English sheep dogs — bred for pets not gambling and greed and money machines.

A reader sent me this pet site that has a gut-wrenching video - if this doesn’t make you well up with tears — then you do not have a soul.

Greyhound Racing Pork and Arizona Budget Deficit

Here’s a website where people can submit ideas to the Governor for how we can fix the Arizona budget deficit.

It seems to me that our AZ state politicos have overlooked a source of revenue — tax the Arizona greyhound racing venues.

While everyone is running amuck cutting vital services and asking state funded college students and their parents to pay more — greyhound racing in Arizona does not pay taxes on their pari-mutuel or gambling earnings.

Granted this greyhound racing bailout loophole won’t solve the entire Arizona budget deficit problem but between the Phoenix and Tucson dog tracks — there are millions of dollars that can be put back into the system for Arizona taxpayers.

If you live in Arizona, I urge you to go to the website and submit the idea to start taxing dog track pari-mutuel earnings.  Dog tracks should not have a hardship tax credit at the expense of a budget deficit where necessary services are cut and others have to pay more while the dog tracks pay less.

So far the lobbyists have done all the talking — NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!

This extra special treatment for Arizona dog tracks has been going on since the mid 1990s. It might have made sense then  but it makes ZERO SENSE now.

Demand it! Share the website with your friends and ask them to do the same. Pass it on.

Here is an article regarding greyhound racing and tax issues.

“Over the past several years, as the pari-mutuel tax revenues have declined, pari-mutuel receipts fell from $2.5 million in FY 2000 to approximately $429,600 in FY 2008, the contributions from the unclaimed property monies to each of the 8 funds increased. This in turn, reduces the monies available to the General Fund. Therefore, the unclaimed
property monies are becoming increasingly important to the continuation of the programs supported by these 8 funds. The unclaimed property monies constitute 95% of the Department of Racing’s FY 2008 total revenues.”*

The unclaimed properties monies should be going to enhance the lives of Arizona students and residents not the Department of Racing.  Mention that in the OSS website too.

Greyhounds Are Dying to Entertain You

This is one of the saddest videos I have seen. It hurts my heart to watch it. Thank you to Greyhound Muses for having the courage to show it.

What the hell is wrong with our society or any society that allows this greyhound abuse to continue?

Citizen Vote Closes Dog Track in Mass.

Bravo to Grey2K and all their supporters and the educated voters of Massachusetts!

This is indeed historic and hopeful.

Thank you

Greyhound Racing Ends in Guam. Greyhound Welfare in Guam?

So does bingo! Times must be really bad. You can put the bingo cards in a box and give it to grandma but WHAT ABOUT THE DOGS?

There is no mention in this article if Guam has live racing or simulcast. Although it looks like live racing.

And if there is live racing, there is no mention of what is going to happen to all the greyhounds in Guam or how many dogs there are?

There is no mention of greyhound welfare in Guam.

Tucson Dog Protection Passes

Hooray!

The dog track said they would close if they have to make these modest humane improvements.

If they close, I would be tap dancing down the street. Make me dance! Make me dance!

I doubt the Tucson Greyhound Park will close so I’ll leave my tap shoes in the closet for now…but maybe I should go dust them off…

Greyhound Track Finally Pays $752,301 Debt to City

Wow! What if there was no ballot initiative to end greyhound racing by 2010?

How long would it have taken Wonderland Race Track to pay its back taxes debt of $752,301.00?

You have to wonder why the town of Revere let it continue for so long?

Do other businesses get such  generous grace periods?
